Souhegan Relays, Saturday September 10th

The Merrimack Girls Cross Country team competed in the 8th annual Souhegan Relays on September 11 in Amherst. The girls team of Lauren Calvino, Lauren Perry and Jen Cermenaro placed 12th, the team of Evelyn Platko, Alex Pickett and Cassie Toribio placed 23rd and the team of Madi Gutekunst, Kacie Wells and Rachel Dye were 32nd for a combined team total of 67 points placing them 9th overall and 7th in Division 1. Julia Glisson, Catherine D'Amico and Sabino Repetto competed in the JV race. The team will be traveling to Manchester on Tuesday.

Derryfield Park, Tuesday September 14th

The Merrimack Girls Cross Country team ran strong in a meet at Derryfield Park on Tuesday Sept 14, 2010. The first 7 runners for Merrimack were Lauren Calvino, Jen Cermenaro, Lauren Perry, Cassie Toribio, Alex Pickett, Kacie Wells and Julia Glisson.

Also running for Merrimack were Rachel Dye, Sabina Repetto, Madi Gutekunst and Catherine D'Amico. 9 of the 11 runners ran their fastest time ever on the tough Derryfield course. The girls next meet will be the Manchester Invite on September 25th.

Manchester Invitational, Saturday September 25th

The Merrimack Girls Cross Country team competed at the 35th annual Manchester Invitational on Saturday September 25th. They placed 11th overall in the large school race but 6th in Division 1. Lauren Calvino was 24th, Cassie Toribio 50th, Jen Cermenaro 67th, Evelyn Platko 76th, Lauren Perry 88th and Alex Pickett 105th. Cassie, Jen, Evelyn and Alex all ran their best times on the grueling Derryfield course.

Competing in the JV race were Julia Glisson, Rachel Dye, Kacie Wells, Jackie McLavey and Madi Gutekunst. Competing in the Freshman race were Sabina Repetto and Catherine D'Amico.

The girls next meet will be at Dover High School on Tuesday September 28th.

Dover Meet, Wednesday September 29th

The Merrimack Girls Cross Country Team placed 1st scoring 21 points at a meet against West 50, Dover 69, Spaulding 106 , and Winnacunnet 109. Leading the way for Merrimack was Lauren Calvino who placed 1st overal. She was followed by teammate Cassie Toribio who was 2nd. Lauren Perry, Evelyn Platko, and Jen Cermenaro placed 5th, 6th and 7th. Rounding out the top 7 were Julia Glisson 24th and Kacie Wells 26th. Rachel Dye was 28th, Jackie McLarey 29th, Madi Gutekunst 30th, Catherine D'Amico 35th and Sabina Repetto 39th.

The girls next meet is October 9th at the Lou Korcoulis Invitational at Hollis Brookline.

Coach Korcoulis Invitational, Saturday October 9th

The Merrimack Girls were 4th at the Coach Korcoulis Invitational at Hollis Brookline High School on October 9, 2010. Lauren Calvino led the way in 7th overall. She was supported by teammates Cassie Toribio 16th, Evelyn Platko 25th, Alex Pickett 27th, and Julia Glisson 34th. Rachel Dye and Madi Gutekunst were the teams 6th and 7th runners. Sabina Repetto 32nd and Catherine D'Amico 33rd ran in the JV race.

The girls will travel to Keene on Tuesday and to the Brown Invitational on Saturday.

Keene, Tuesday October 12th

The Merrimack Girls Cross Country team placed 4th at a meet in Keene on Tuesday October 12th. Lauren Calvino placed 6th in 19:49. Cassie Toribio 17th 20:44, Lauren Perry 27th 21:28, Alex Pickett 30th 21:35, Evelyn Platko 31st 21:37, Julia Glisson 36th 22:24, Kacie Wells 52nd 24:07, Jackie McLavey 59th 24:43, Rachel Dye 60th 24:46, Madi Gutekunst 61st 24:51, Sabina Repetto 67th 25:20 and Catherine D'Amico 68th in 25:33.

The girls will travel to Rhode Island on Saturday to compete in the Brown Cross Country Invitational.

Brown Cross Country Invitational, Saturday October 16th

Braving the winds and the muddy Goddard Park trails, the Merrimack Boys' Cross Country team competed in the Twenty-eighth Annual Brown University Championship this Saturday (10/16/10). Coming in first for the Merrimack squad in the Boys' Championship race was John Conlin (7th overall, 15:30, a school record for the 5k), followed by Chris Busby (50th, 16:41), Nick Johnson (72nd, 17:05), Ben Francis (105th, 17:46), Kyle Haggerty (108th, 17:48), Mitch Ripka (110th, 18:00), and Kris Auger (118th, 18:29). The boys' team placed sixteenth overall.

Commenting on the team's success, Coach John Snell says, "I am very happy with the improvement of our athletes. They're learning to handle the pressure of big meets." Also commenting on the team's race was junior Chris Busby, "Everybody raced well, and we were all in the race mentally. We are that much closer to being ready for the Class L meet with two weeks of training left."

The next meet for the boys' team will be the JV State Meet, Friday, October 22, at Nashua High School South.

The Merrimack Girls Cross Country Team competed at the Brown University NE cross country championships on October 16 at Goddard Park in East Greenwich, Rhode Island. The girls place 12th out of 28 teams in the Division II race. Lauren Calvino was once again the top runner for Merriamack completing the 3.1 mile course in 19:58, Cassie Toribio ran 21:06, Alex Pickett 21:22, Lauren Perry 21:28, Evelyn Platko 22:10 and Kacie Wells was 24:16. Completing in the JV race was Jackie McLavey in a time of 24:39 and Madi Gutekunst 25:12.

Competing in the Freshman 4k race and receiving a medal for finishing in 16th place in a time of 16:51 was Julia Glisson, Sabina Repetto ran 19:10 and Catherine D'Amico ran 20:49. Merrimack's JV runner's will compete at the JV state at Nashua South High School on October 22nd.

2010 NH JV Division I XC Championships, Friday October 22nd

The Merrimack Girls JV team ran very strong at the JV state meet held at Nashua South High School on October 22, 2010. Freshman Sabina Repetto ran her best time of the season completing the 5k course in 24:03, Senior Kacie Wells ran 24:11, Junior Rachel Dye ran 24:32 also running a season personal record, Sophomore Jackie McLavey ran 24:49, Sophomore Madi Gutenkunst ran 24:51 and freshman Catherine D'Amico ran 25:56. The team placed 10th out of 13 teams.

The Merrimack J.V. Boys' Cross Country team, going up against the bone chilling coldness and winds, placed ninth in the Class L J.V. Championship State meet on Friday, October 22, at Mine Falls Park in Nashua, N.H. Coming in first for the boys' side was Kyle Haggerty (16th overall, time 17:44), followed by Ben Rogers (43rd, 18:29), Connor Lane (47th, 18:37), Brent Whitney (95th, 19:41), Josh Ware (97th, 19:43), Bobby Desmond (132nd, 20:35), Chaz Myers (150th, 21:02), Alex Doyle (166th, 21:42), Brian Stankewiecz (169th, 21:57), Jared Holly (180th, 22:13), and Brenden Hargreaves (208th, 26:19).

This meet was important for the Merrimack Boys' Cross Country team for deciding the seventh man on the varsity side of the team. Kyle Haggerty, who was the first man to come in for the Tomahawks, will be joining the other six varsity players to compete in the Class L State Championship Meet next Saturday, October 30, at Derryfield Park in Manchester, N.H.

2010 NH Division I XC Championships, Saturday October 30th

All the hard work and determination of the last five months that the Merrimack Boys' Cross Country team has done came to a head this Saturday, October 30, at Derryfield Park in Manchester, N.H. The boys' team slogged their way to an eighth place finish. Two of Merrimack's premier bulwarks, Jack Conlin (6th overall, time 16:01) and Chris Busby (18th, 16:41), came in first and second for the Merrimack squad respectively. Other noticeable include: Nick Johnson (43rd, 17:12), Ben Francis (58th-making him the number one freshman in Division I with a time of 17:45), Kyle Haggerty (66th, 17:55), Mitch Ripka (67th, 17:57), and Kris Auger (93rd, 18:42).

After a fierce battle with Nashua North, losing to Merrimack by four points, the Merrimack Boys' Team has managed to advance to the Meet of Championships being held next week, November 6, at Mine Falls Park in Nashua, N.H.

2010 NH Meet Of Champions, Saturday November 6th

The Merrimack Girls Cross Country team competed at the Meet of Champions at Mines Falls Park at Nashua High School on November 6, 2010. Lauren Calvino led the way with a school record time on the Meet of Champions course of 19:25 She was 22nd overall and will be competing at the New England Championships at Thetford Academy on November 13th. Julia Glisson was 2nd for the team and ran the 5th fastest time for Merrimack Girls at 20:46. Also competing for Merrimack were Cassie Toribio 21:32, Alexandra Pickett 21:46, Evelyn Platko 22:11, Jennifer Cermenaro 22:24, and Lauren Perry 22:28

The Merrimack Boys' Cross Country team competed this Saturday, November 6, in the Meet of Champions in Mine Falls Park in Nashua, N.H. The boys' team finished out the season with a tenth place-out of eighteen teams-finish at the grandest cross country meet in all of New Hampshire. Finishing first for the Merrimack squad was Jack Conlin (6th overall, time 15:49). Other finishers for the Merrimack boys include: Chris Busby (36th, 16:37), Nick Johnson (45th, 16:46), Ben Francis (101st, 17:27), Kyle Haggerty (102nd, 17:28), Mitch Ripka (117th, 17:44), and Ben Rogers (130th, 18:01). With Jack Conlin's sixth place finish at the Meet of Champions, he will go onto the New England Championship meet next weekend, Saturday, November 13, in Thetford, V.T.

2010 NE Championship, Saturday November 13th

Lauren Calvino the first ever female cross country runner from Merrimack High School competed in the NE Cross Country Championships at Thetford Academy in Vermont on November 13, 2010. Lauren was 50th overall the 11th fastest New Hampshire runner and the 6th fastest Div 1 runner.

Running through the mud and muck of the insurmountable Thetford course, Jack Conlin managed to finish off his junior year of Cross Country at the New England Championship meet that was held this Saturday, November, 13, at Thetford Academy in Thetford, V.T. Conlin was seventh with a time of 17:04. With his unwavering courage and determination, Conlin becomes only the fourth Merrimack distance running in the thirty plus year history of the Merrimack Boys' Cross Country program to medal in the New England Championship meet. His seventh place finish also makes him the highest placed finisher out of all his three predecessors. On commenting of his success, Jack Conlin stated, "(I'm) pretty impressed in how I did. I didn't think I had it in me." Also commenting on Conlin's success-and the team's successes of this season-Coach John Snell says, "I'm very happy with how we did this season. I'm happy that we had a kid come in seventh in New England(s). We will be a very good team next year." Assistant Coach Ryan Haggerty finished off by saying, "Darn good performance by Jack today. I think this is a perfect finish to a tough season for all involved. The future only can get brighter and brighter for the Merrimack Boys' XC team with the strength and dignity that we have seen here today."
